Important Information
  • All Staff: Choose ONE Keynote and ONE Lunch

  • Required Sessions: Attend sessions that are noted as required for your role. This will be communicated from the department or area you work with (Exceptional Children, Student Services, etc.). 

  • Filtering Sessions: You can filter sessions by clicking “Filter By Type” on the left-hand side of the page on the desktop version of Sched. “All Teachers” Sessions are for all staff. “K-2 Teachers” are targeted for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade Teachers, 9-12 Teachers for High School teachers, etc. For example, a Kindergarten teacher can click “K-2 Teachers” and see all sessions that would apply to them. You can further filter by sub-type in each area, by hovering over the type: review session titles and descriptions for more specific information. The search feature in the top right is also helpful for finding sessions using keywords.

  • Networking and Collaboration Sessions: These sessions are provided for many content areas, grade levels, and specialty areas. Filter by the session type that best matches your role to see if a Networking and Collaboration/Job Alike session is offered.

2022 Burroughs-Wellcome Fund NC Southwest Region Teacher of the Year
Classroom Teacher
Ashtyn Berry is the 2022 Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Southwest Region Teacher of the Year. She also served as the 2021 Cabarrus County Schools Teacher of the Year. Ashtyn has been an elementary school teacher in Cabarrus County at W.R. Odell Elementary since 2017. She began her teaching career in 2013 teaching second grade in Lincoln County. Currently, Ashtyn teaches an Encore class called Learn, Serve, Engage to third, fourth, and fifth grade students. Together, she and her students design and carry out student-led, curriculum-based service learning projects that prioritize student voice, agency, and funds of knowledge. She is passionate about culturally responsive pedagogy, service learning, amplifying student voices, and utilizing students' stories to drive instruction. Through her teacher advocacy, she strives to hold and make space for more equitable and inclusive instructional decisions and practices in North Carolina Public Schools.

Ashtyn earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University in 2013 and her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Appalachian State University in 2021. In 2020, Ashtyn received the W.F. & Mozelle Costner Parker Endowed Scholarship awarded by the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University. At the state and regional levels, she serves on the State Superintendent’s Teacher Leadership Council and facilitates the Southwest Region Teacher Leadership Council. Ashtyn has also served Cabarrus County Schools in a variety of roles such as Teacher Liaison to the School Board, District Curriculum Writing Facilitator, District Curriculum Writer, Mentor Teacher, Service-Learning Professional Development Facilitator, Grade Level Reading Intervention Specialist, and MTSS Team Member.

Ashtyn is a proud aunt and godmother to her niece Mylah. She is a daughter, a sister, and a friend. Ashtyn is also a dog mom to her ten year old rescue dog named Lucy. She enjoys spending time with her friends, hiking, kayaking, reading, and taking pottery classes.
