Important Information
  • All Staff: Choose ONE Keynote and ONE Lunch

  • Required Sessions: Attend sessions that are noted as required for your role. This will be communicated from the department or area you work with (Exceptional Children, Student Services, etc.). 

  • Filtering Sessions: You can filter sessions by clicking “Filter By Type” on the left-hand side of the page on the desktop version of Sched. “All Teachers” Sessions are for all staff. “K-2 Teachers” are targeted for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade Teachers, 9-12 Teachers for High School teachers, etc. For example, a Kindergarten teacher can click “K-2 Teachers” and see all sessions that would apply to them. You can further filter by sub-type in each area, by hovering over the type: review session titles and descriptions for more specific information. The search feature in the top right is also helpful for finding sessions using keywords.

  • Networking and Collaboration Sessions: These sessions are provided for many content areas, grade levels, and specialty areas. Filter by the session type that best matches your role to see if a Networking and Collaboration/Job Alike session is offered.

Interactive Lessons using Desmos in the Classroom

Teachers will be shown how to create and implement interactive, self-checking, engaging activities on Desmos. Teachers will have the opportunity to complete a pre-made Desmos activity so that they can become familiar with the student dashboard and while they are completing the activity they will be shown how to monitor student progress on the teacher dashboard and how to use the different features that Desmos activities have built in. Teachers will be shown how to edit previously made activities, how to create new activities, and how to implement them in a classroom. A self-checking template activity will be provided, and teachers will be shown how to copy from the template to make their assignments self-checking. Teachers will be given an opportunity to create an assignment themselves before leaving the session.

Using Robots to Engage Students in Literacy Activities

We will provide several engaging strategies for using robots while supporting literacy and engaging learners in the K-5 setting. Participants will get a chance to experience Ozobots, Code and Go Robot Mice, Beebots, and Dash Robots, while brainstorming ways to incorporate their use into their own classrooms. These robots can be used for writing, summarizing, retelling, and much more! We will provide a list of books as well as resources related to using the robots with them. We will share some of the successful projects we have had with our students using the various types of robots. Attendees will be able to have hands-on experience with the different robots and ask any questions they may have. This breakout session would also showcase how classroom teachers can successfully collaborate with their media specialists.
