  • Filtering Sessions: You can filter sessions by clicking “Filter By Type” on the left-hand side of the page on the desktop version of Sched. “All Teachers” Sessions are for all staff. “K-2 Teachers” are targeted for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade Teachers, 9-12 Teachers for High School teachers, etc. For example, a Kindergarten teacher can click “K-2 Teachers” and see all sessions that would apply to them. You can further filter by sub-type in each area, by hovering over the type: review session titles and descriptions for more specific information. The search feature in the top right is also helpful for finding sessions using keywords.

  • Networking and Collaboration Sessions: These sessions are provided for many content areas, grade levels, and specialty areas. Filter by the session type that best matches your role to see if a Networking and Collaboration/Job Alike session is offered.

Ethics… All day, Every day
Monday August 5, 2024 9:35am - 10:20am EDT
303
This session will provide a mandatory continuing competence on Ethics for School-based Occupational Therapists. Every year, the NC Board of Occupational Therapy requires completion of at least one course on ethics as it relates to the practice of occupational therapy. School-based OTs work with autonomy within a setting of layers of policy, processes, and multi-disciplinary practice. Conflicts of interest and moral issues arise on a regular basis. Because of the autonomy of our positions, there are limited opportunities to reflect and align as a group. This will give us a space to unify our professional voices and align with state and federal policies on ethical situations.

Deep Dive into Occupational Therapy in NC Public Schools
Monday August 5, 2024 12:45pm - 1:30pm EDT
303
Deep Dive into the Guidelines for Providing Occupational Therapy in North Carolina Public Schools: This will provide the OT department with invaluable information on implementation of best practices related to working with student with disabilities. It also reinforces our scope of practice and clarifies our role within the school district. The Guidelines need to be reviewed regularly as they are routinely updated to reflect changes in state and federal policies. This serves as our department’s guide for planning, implementing, and evaluating the quality of occupational therapy services, programs, and personnel in our school district.

Are your ducks aligned?
Monday August 5, 2024 1:35pm - 2:20pm EDT

The occupational therapy department lead will review policies and procedures related to compliance. We will review departmental documentation requirements and ensure that templates and materials meet those requirements. We will review American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) standards as they relate to school-based practice and align our principles. This aligns with Working on Strategic Plan for Teaching and Learning as well as Early Learning, specifically in closing the gap in academic achievement. We work to ensure access for all students by providing specially-designed instruction in the least restrictive environments.
