Concept Attainment is an activating, instructional strategy that engages all students by using their prior knowledge as a gateway to learning content-specific concepts. This session models how to utilize and implement this strategy within any curriculum. Throughout the session, participants will have several opportunities to learn both individually and collaboratively while also utilizing bits of technology and various formative assessments. Participants will leave with an example presentation to use with students, a collectively-brainstormed list of concepts that could be used within their curriculum, and a clear understanding of how to quickly and seamlessly implement the strategy.

Interactive Lessons using Desmos in the Classroom

Teachers will be shown how to create and implement interactive, self-checking, engaging activities on Desmos. Teachers will have the opportunity to complete a pre-made Desmos activity so that they can become familiar with the student dashboard and while they are completing the activity they will be shown how to monitor student progress on the teacher dashboard and how to use the different features that Desmos activities have built in. Teachers will be shown how to edit previously made activities, how to create new activities, and how to implement them in a classroom. A self-checking template activity will be provided, and teachers will be shown how to copy from the template to make their assignments self-checking. Teachers will be given an opportunity to create an assignment themselves before leaving the session.

Those countries have many places of interest for tourist to visit and enjoy, but we need to be aware of problems that affect each country before visiting. Among the problems that affect those countries are: problems with the water system, poverty, an alarming increase in crimes, pollution, etc. This session is appropriate for Honors and AP Courses as well.

Purpose: The purpose of this session is to gather all SAVE advisors together in the county. It is also for schools who hope to form a SAVE Club but haven't yet. We are going to discuss ways in which an advisor can run a successful SAVE Club.

Objective: To learn strategies that allow for a SAVE Club to run smoothly and work effectively an efficiently.
Share ideas for SAVE Club programs such as Start with Hello and Say Something to share with club members when the school year begins.

Resources: I will share planning guides from Sandy Hook Promise to help assist advisors as well as ways to communicate with the SAVE Team at SHP if they need further assistance or help. Advisors will also leave with a copy of a club bill o f rights, rules, policies, and specifics about the role of club leadership roles.

Engagement: I will provide a brief slideshow detailing general information about SAVE and Sandy Hook Promise and show a few things our club has achieved over the last few years.
I plan to bring a few members of our club leadership team (student members) who can share about their club experiences from a student's perspective. I will include an activity that we do in sessions with SHP that allows advisors to share what their clubs have done so others can get ideas and for advisors to ask questions.

Explore the use of area model. Climb the ladder from grades 3-12 using one strategy to support various concepts within mathematics. Learn the importance of starting with concrete manipulatives to build the foundational understanding before moving into representational models at all grade levels. Teachers will progress through a hands-on experience on how to use the base ten blocks to model everything from multiplication/division of 1 digit x 1 digit numbers to multiplication/division of polynomials.
