Do you struggle finding ways to spark students’ interest and keep them engaged throughout the lesson? If so, this session is for you. Concept Attainment is an activating, instructional strategy that engages all students by using their prior knowledge as a gateway to learning content-specific concepts. This session models how to utilize and implement this strategy within any curriculum. Throughout the session, participants will have several opportunities to learn both individually and collaboratively while also utilizing bits of technology and various formative assessments. Participants will leave with an example presentation to use with students, a collectively-brainstormed list of concepts that could be used within their curriculum, and a clear understanding of how to quickly and seamlessly implement the strategy.

Assessment & Feedback
Monday August 5, 2024 11:40am - 12:25pm EDT
307
Participants will focus on how to provide feedback that allows students to have access to true understanding of curricular content. As educators we have to be cognizant of the way in which we provide feedback to students; are we to narrow in what we say or do we say just enough to ensure true understanding? In this session we will engage in activities that let us see how we can hone in on effective practices for feedback with assessments and beyond.

Teachers will leave the session with strategies to implement in their own classrooms and
take their teaching outside the box for the 2024-2025 school year.

Attendees will learn from the first hand experiences of 2 middle school teachers that took
the leap into high school and reignited a passion for teaching. They have taken the
methods they used in middle school to build relationships and grow student knowledge
