Purpose: Increase student engagement by using video games as a relevant resource and educational technology source.

Objective: Educators will expand their understanding of video games and how they can be used productively in an education setting in order to build student engagement.

Engagement: Introduce topic by informing educators about NC state esport/education vision (increasing tech sector through K-12 pipeline by providing technology grants to schools). Discuss benefits video games can provide: problem solving skills, collaboration, perseverance and sometimes literacy. Provide examples of integrating video games into existing curriculum (identifying story elements, collaborative writing, multi-step math problems). Share existing educational lesson plans from video game sources, such as Fortnite Creative lesson plans: Civil Rights, Sustainable development, Rube Goldberg (force and motion) and Minecraft for Education learning modules.
